Apple has said in a statement to Mac Rumours they plan to release an update to iOS17 to address the reported overheating issue on iPhone 15 Pro models.
Apple’s statement “We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity. We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We're working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out”.
Apple said some third-party apps have resulted in the A17 Pro becoming overloaded for reason as yet unknown, including Instagram, Uber, and racing game Asphalt 9: Legends. It is normal for iPhone to become warmer than usual during initial setting up of new devices. Apple has been conscious to reassure customers that any software fix will not result in reduced performance of the A17 Pro chip.
I have not experienced the overheating myself, the only app mentioned in the report I have installed is Instagram.
