FineWoven indecision

It would be fair the call me indecisive? I purchased the Mulberry and Taupe FineWoven cases for iPhone 15 Pro Max and even did a short video Mulberry FineWoven Case and Wallet - not including an iPhone as that hadn’t arrived. Then came ‘Case Gate’. The fuss about the supposed premium branding of the FineWoven accessories and how easy they were to scratch and otherwise damage with said damage being permanent.

What followed was an Internet meltdown about how these cases should be pulled and how utterly unbelievable it was that Apple could release a product this bad. I returned all three FineWoven accessories I had through fear that mine would suffer the same fate. I wrote about it here Why I'm returning Apple's FineWoven cases I do still feel the case has a rather cheep plastic feel when fitting and removing.

Then we saw photos of cases on display in Apple Stores with scratches where presumably people had gone in to check for themselves and purposely scratched the cases to see how easily then damaged.

I have a problem with this, how is it ok to walk into to any outlet and wilfully damage the products on display? Not to mention the fact that once one person had done it, was it really necessary for everyone else to have a go? My car will scratch if I take a screwdriver to it, I don’t need people queuing up to see if their screwdriver also scratches the paint. Madness.

So this week I decided to dive back into the world of Apple’s new premium cases and give them a second look. I managed to get one from Amazon for £47 instead of £59, I assume it was a returned item based on the box, although the case itself was fine.

To be clear I don’t think that FineWoven feel as premium as the leather we’re used to and they’re not worth £59, some might argue the leather weren’t either. In general Apple’s accessories are over priced, surprise surprise, however I do think they are generally better quality than equivalent offerings from third parties.

Spoiler alert, if you take a sharp implement be it a knife, screwdriver or keys and apply too much force to the FineWoven case than it’s reasonably designed to withstand then it’s going to damage it and likely permanently. Saying this applies only to the FineWoven case is a little disingenuous I’d say. I’m sure if I were to inflict this kind of treatment on a leather or silicone case made by Apple and third party manufacturers, it would cause the same level of damage.

Check out my unboxing and review of the case here

So I’ve decided I’m going to stick with this FineWoven case and give it fair use to see how it holds up, I will use it as I would any other case. Are you planning to buy a FineWoven case, or do you already have one, if so please share your experience with it so far. Thanks for reading.
